Making the most of your appointment

The more information that a designer has when they design the kitchen- the better the result.

To make the most of your appointment with one of our designers we have made a list of things that will be required. This is divided into two sections –

  • Essential information
  • Additional information that is useful.

With regards the measurements of the room layout, we do a check measure before anything goes ahead so just get them as accurate as you can.

Essential information:

  • A sketch plan on the room with existing windows and doors marked
  • Ceiling height
  • Location of existing plumbing – this can be costly to shift
  • Location of gas outlet if you are planning to use a gas connection
  • Information on existing appliances that you intend to reuse

Other helpful information:

  • A plan of the house – even if it is only a plan from a real estate brochure. This can help when you are trying to work out how the kitchen fits in with the traffic flow for the rest of the house.
  • Pictures of kitchens or part kitchens you like – and even things you don’t’ like help the designer
  • A few photos of your kitchen and the surrounding area if it is open planned. Location of gas outlet if you are planning to use a gas connection
  • Location of existing power points – this is useful information but a new layout may require some changes or addition power points. It is more important to get the design right and hopefully the existing power points will not be too difficult to relocate if need be

Things to think about:

  • How many people cook in the kitchen – this is something that has changed as there are often multiple people using the space
  • What appliances do you use often – ie rice cookers, slow cookers, woks etc.
  • Do you have – or will have in the future an outdoor kitchen as this can influence what you may do in the indoor kitchen
  • Do you like to entertain and do you use platters with a help yourself arrangement or do you plate up as this may need more / or different space
  • How and what do you recycle

If you don’t have all the answers don’t stress just show up and we’ll sort it out on the day
